Dr. Richard McDonaldDoctor of OptometryAfter graduating from Pine River High School, Dr. McDonald served in the U.S. Navy for twelve years. He joined the practice in 1999, having graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association, and a 2000 graduate of the Cadillac Leadership program. After being away from the area for nearly twenty years, Dr. McDonald, his wife Sherry (also a PRHS graduate), and their three children are happy to be “back home.” His family is very involved in the youth sports program in the LeRoy area.

Dr. Amanda JohnstonDoctor of OptometryAfter graduating from Azle High School in Texas, Dr. Johnston attended Baylor University and graduated in August 2001. After college, she met and married her husband Jason, a Michigan State University graduate from St. Joseph, Michigan. Dr. Johnston graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry in May 2007. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association and is a 2008 graduate of the Cadillac Leadership Program. Dr. Johnston, Jason, and their three sons are excited to call Cadillac home.
Dr. Amanda L. Johnston, O.D. has been practicing here at Advanced Optometry since August 2007. She has been working in the Optometry field for over 20 years. She performs Comprehensive Eye Exams and Contact Lens Fittings. Dr. Johnston is married to husband Jason, and has three boys, Vance, Reed, and Brandt. Her hobbies include reading, golfing, tennis, and family time. |

Dr. Johnston feels that eyesight is precious and she feels privileged to help enhance and preserve the eyesight of so many people. Her favorite feeling is encouraging other people, which motivates her to work her hardest to be a positive influence.
Meet Our Management Team
ANGIE
Optical ManagerAngie has been with us at Advanced Optometry since January 2015. She has been in the Optician field since 1980. Her job duties include adjusting eyewear, picking out the best frame and lenses for patients needs, and dispensing eyewear.
Angie loves using her knowledge to help patients with their glasses and adjustments. Her number one goal is to make our patients happy. Angie also enjoys going to Vision Source Training. Outside of work, Angie enjoys reading, walking, and spending time with her husband and her 2 wonderful daughters. |
KATE
Front Office ManagerKate has been with us at Advanced Optometry since September 2019. Her job duties include managing front office, scheduling patient appointments, answering phone calls, chart building, insurance authorizations, and being available to handle any office concerns that arise.
She enjoys and takes pride in helping our patients every day. Some of her hobbies include camping, hiking and other outdoor activities. |
ASHLEYBilling ManagerAshley has been with us at Advanced Optometry since September 2017. She has worked for us as an optician, a scribe, and is now our in house biller. Her job duties include front office tasks, scribing part time, as well as working with our billing and coding.
Ashley loves getting to help patients with their needs. One of her favorite things is seeing a young patient get glasses for the first time and they're able to see well. Outside of work she enjoys her time being a new mom, spending time with her family and playing softball. |
AMBER
Scribe ManagerAmber has been with us at Advanced Optometry since April 2018. Amber is CPOA certified. Her job duties include pre-testing patients, refractometry, and collecting patient data.
Her favorite part of her job is getting to see the look on a patients face when they see through their first pair of glasses for the first time. As well as spending time with her coworkers. Outside of work Amber enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, and reading. |

SHERRYSherry has been with us at Advanced Optometry since October 2020 as a Receptionist in our Business Office. Her job duties include scheduling patient appointments, answering phone calls, chart building, and insurance authorizations.
Sherry loves patient interaction and working with peers in an upbeat and fun environment. Some of her interests include kayaking, off-roading, yoga, family time, and enjoying her granddaughters. |
AUTUMNAutumn has been with us at Advanced Optometry since July 2024 as a receptionist in our Business Office. Her job duties include scheduling patient appointments, answering phone calls, chart building, and insurance authorizations.
Autumn loves to help patients and getting to learn new things. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. |

MELANIEMelanie has been with us at Advanced Optometry since September 2021 as a scribe. Melanie is CPOA certified. Her job duties include pre-testing patients, refractometry, and collecting patient data.
Her favorite part of her job is helping and listening. Whether it be helping a patient see better and listening to their concerns, or helping one of her coworkers if they need an extra hand. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her children, reading, volunteering, crafting, and spending her summers at Lake Michigan. |
WESTONWeston has been with us at Advanced Optometry since November 2023 as a scribe. His job duties include pre-testing patients, collecting patient data and aiding doctor in office.
His favorite thing about his job is seeing patients happy with their new glasses, and learning new things every day while working with great coworkers. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with friends and family, and playing musical instruments. |

Skiler has been with us at Advanced Optometry since January 2024 as a scribe. Her job duties include pre-testing patients, collecting patient data and aiding doctor in office.
Her favorite thing about her job is that there is always something new to learn every day. Outside of work she enjoys hanging out with her pets, painting, being on the water, camping and adventuring to new places. |

Angelia has been with us at Advanced Optometry since April 2014 as an Optician and is CPO certified. Her job duties include teaching patients how to properly insert and remove contact lenses, picking out the best frame and lenses for patients needs, and dispensing and adjusting eyewear.
Her favorite part about her career is working with patients, learning new things, and spending time with her fabulous work family. Angelia loves binging true crime, spending time with her daughter, shopping, going for walks, and listening to music. |

Janette has been with us at Advanced Optometry since September 2020 as an Optician. Her job duties include dispensing and adjusting glasses and helping patients pick out new eyewear.
Her favorite part of her job is helping people see, and trouble shooting issues with eyeglasses. When not at work, her interests include spending time with her family. They love to spend time outdoors, camping or hanging out at the beach. |

Her favorite part of her job is helping patients find the best way to invest in their eye health without compromising looking great. Outside of work Erin enjoys hiking, spending time with her grandchildren, and raising goats & chickens. |
TABITHATabitha has been with us at Advanced Optometry since October 2023 as an optician. Her job duties include dispensing and adjusting glasses and helping patients pick out new eyewear.
Her favorite part of her job is knowing that when the patients she's helped walk away they've received the best care possible. Also, her coworkers are wonderful to work with, which makes coming to work more enjoyable. Outside of work Tabitha enjoys playing board games with her husband and children, spending time at church, going on walks, trying new recipes, and going thrifting. |
Certifications ExplainedA Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) is the person who works under the direct supervision of a licensed doctor of optometry; collects patient data; administers routine, yet technical tests of the patient's visual capabilities; and assists in office management.
Increased levels of certification include more responsibilities and further education. The next level is Certified Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA), followed by Certified Paraoptometric Technician (CPOT). Certified Paraoptometric Coder (CPOC) validates a candidate's proficiency and expertise in optometric coding environment. |
